FAQ
Find answers to common questions about SeaSense, installation, and getting started.
In short: (1) You upload your vessel's documentation to our secure cloud portal. (2) Our AI is trained on your docs to build a vessel-specific knowledge model. (3) The trained model is deployed to your vessel via Docker on your own hardware. (4) Your crew asks questions in natural language from any browser on the vessel network and gets instant, referenced answers — fully offline.
SeaSense is an AI-powered knowledge system designed specifically for maritime vessels. It ingests your vessel's technical documentation — manuals, drawings, procedures, parts lists — and creates a searchable AI assistant that can answer natural language questions about your specific vessel. It runs offline on your vessel's hardware, so you can get answers even in the middle of the ocean.
SeaSense works with any vessel that has significant technical documentation — superyachts, commercial cargo ships, tankers, offshore supply vessels, ferries, fishing vessels, and more. If your vessel has manuals and your engineers need to find information quickly, SeaSense can help.
Yes! SeaSense is designed to be 100% offline-capable. The AI model runs locally on your vessel's hardware, so you can query your documentation without any internet connection. When connectivity is available, you can optionally enable Cloud AI features for enhanced capabilities like live web search.
SeaSense runs on any Docker-capable device. This includes NAS devices (Synology, QNAP), dedicated PCs, mini servers, or even some capable routers. Minimum requirements are 8GB RAM and 50GB storage, though we recommend 16GB+ RAM for optimal performance with large document libraries.
SeaSense supports PDF, DOCX, DOC, XLSX, XLS, TXT, and common image formats (JPG, PNG, TIFF) with OCR. We can process technical drawings, schematics, parts lists, maintenance procedures, manufacturer manuals, and more.
The typical setup process takes 2-4 hours: enrollment (10 minutes), document upload (varies by volume), AI training (30 minutes to 2 hours), and deployment (30 minutes). Our team guides you through each step.
Yes. Your documentation is processed in our secure cloud only during the initial training phase. Once the model is deployed to your vessel, all data stays local. During operation, no documents leave your hardware. Data is encrypted at rest, and cloud sync is completely opt-in.
SeaSense uses simple per-vessel pricing. The Starter plan is $249/month and the Professional plan is $299/month per vessel. Both require a 12-month term. Fleet pricing (3+ vessels) is available with volume discounts. There are no per-user fees.
Hardware is sold separately, or you can use your own Docker-capable device. We offer pre-configured hardware packages for vessels that need them, or we can help you spec appropriate hardware for your existing IT infrastructure.
The main difference is Cloud AI. Professional includes access to live web search and advanced AI models (OpenAI, Anthropic Claude) when your vessel has internet connectivity. Professional also includes 10GB document storage vs 5GB for Starter, and priority support with dedicated onboarding.
